Application and Awarding

The acceptance of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) credits must be in accordance with the standards recommended and required by CSCC Academic Policy 2:01:00:00 and Guideline A-045.

Credit by External Exam

  1. Complete the online Credit By External Exam application on CougarNet under “Prior Learning.” You will be required to upload your score report.
  2. Upon approval of transcripts with successful scores, credit is applied to the transcript with the grade of “TP.”

Prior Military Training Credit

  1. Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard personnel should request your transcript by going to https://jst.doded.mil/jst.
  2. Upon receipt of your transcript, an official evaluation will be performed and credit will be applied to the transcript with the grade of “TP.”
  3. Students may also see the Veterans Services Coordinator to determine if other methods of earning prior learning credit for military experience are appropriate.

Dual Credit Recognition Process

  1. Complete the online Dual Credit application on CougarNet under “Prior Learning.”
  2. The Dual Credit Coordinator will receive your application and indicate whether credit is approved or denied.
  3. Approved credit is applied to the transcript with the grade of “P.”

Portfolio Review Credit

To be considered for Portfolio Review Process:

  1. Discuss the portfolio process with the respective Dean or Department Chair.
  2. Pay the Portfolio Review fee or submit Veteran Student Waiver to the Business Office. Veteran Student Waiver is on Cougarnet under “Prior Learning.”
  3. Enroll in online portfolio workshop with PLA SpecialistTranscript Analyst and work with mentor to complete the required elements.
  4. Submit completed portfolio for evaluation.
  5. Approved credit is applied to the transcript with the grade of “TP.”

Institutional Course Challenge Exam

  1. Complete the online Institutional Course Challenge Exam application on CougarNet under “Prior Learning.”
  2. Pay the Exam Fee or submit Veteran Student Waiver (also found under “Prior Learning”) to the Business Office.
  3. Make arrangements with faculty or testing office staff to administer the challenge exam.
  4. Approved credit is applied to the transcript with the grade of “TP.”
