What is Biology Emphasis A.S. TTP?

EXPECTED HOURS FOR A.S. DEGREE: 64-65 

The Biology Emphasis A.S. TTP is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in biological sciences while preparing them for seamless transfer to a four-year institution within the Tennessee Board of Regents system. This pathway emphasizes core biology courses along with complementary courses in related disciplines, ensuring a smooth transition into a bachelor’s degree program in biology or a related field.

What Can I Do With This Degree?

A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Biology provides the training for a number of jobs. These would include biological or medical research, teaching biology at the college level, and working for state and federal agencies in a variety of roles.

Program Outcomes

All students who complete a degree designated as a Tennessee Transfer Pathway will be able to do the following:

  • Communicate effectively through oral and written modes, using conventions appropriate to their audience and purpose, including critical listening, reading, and research skills.
  • Evaluate the significance of humanity’s cultural heritage and diversity and its development in a historical and/or global context through critical and analytical methodologies.
  • Connect knowledge of social and cultural institutions to issues of personal or public importance.
  • Analyze historical and contemporary issues by drawing on historical contexts.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of scientific principles and concepts.
  • Apply relevant mathematical modeling to a variety of applied or theoretical
    problems.
  • In addition, students who complete the Biology degree will learn specific concepts pertaining to biology, chemistry and mathematics required for successful progression into advanced studies in the area.

What Are My Options to Pay for This Degree?

Apply for financial aid at www.FAFSA.gov. A student is encouraged to apply early for financial aid and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the FAFSA Renewal Application as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives the Institutional Student Information Record and other documents prior to the priority deadline. July 1st is the priority deadline for applying for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.
