What is History Emphasis: General Transfer Major?


WHAT IS a history emphasis in a general transfer, A.S.? The history emphasis is designed to prepare students for transfer to a bachelor’s degree granting institution. This program prepares students for more advanced study in a set of pathways through which students can pursue careers in business, education, and history, including historic presentation, preservation, and teaching.


Program Outcomes

All students who complete a degree designated as a Tennessee Transfer Pathway will be able to do the following:

  • Analyze historical facts and interpretations concerning history.
  • Analyze and compare cultural, economic, geographic, intellectual, political, religious, and social, institutions, structures and processes across the range of historical periods and cultures in history.
  • Recognize and articulate the diversity of human experience across the range of historical periods and the complexities of cultures and societies in history.
  • Draw on historical perspectives in history to evaluate contemporary problems and issues.
  • Analyze the contributions of past cultures and societies in history to the contemporary world.

What Are My Options to Pay for This Degree?

Apply for financial aid at www.FAFSA.gov. A student is encouraged to apply early for financial aid and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the FAFSA Renewal Application as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives the Institutional Student Information Record and other documents prior to the priority deadline. July 1st is the priority deadline for applying for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.
